Buying Strategy 101: Buy what’s available, not what you want
A few days ago, I mentioned some killer deals I’ve gotten on drum gear lately. Specifically, I mentioned getting a Zildjian Z Custom ride for only $100 (valued new at $279.99 at Guitar Center). As promised, I said I would explain how I did this. Again, no secrets, just strategy. I wasn’t looking for a cheap but excellent ride cymbal–that has since replaced my trusty old Paiste ride (the only Paiste in my collection that can be heard here: www.myspace.com/zoinksnv … yes that’s me in the goofy pictures). How did I do it? I scour Craigslist regularly and look for good deals on gear: recording, drum, hardware, mics and cymbals. I don’t seek anything in particular, I just wait for a good deal to come along. That’s it.
