The question, among novices, isn’t raised enough: How do I (properly) tune my drums? More often than experienced drummers would like to see, poorly tuned drums appear to be the norm out in the world of live playing. Correction: It’s not just a problem with novice drummers. Drummers of all levels seem to have difficulty tuning their drums.
For those who are less saavy at drum tuning, and for snobs, like myself, that try to take the extra time to tune our drums–and still struggle with doing it correctly–there’s an excellent go-to resource to remedy the problem of poorly tuned drums.
It’s Prof. Sounds Drum Tuning Bible, and it’s available here: http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/. Sound also has excellent drum buying tips. I recently downloaded the bible and found it immensely useful and realized that for more than 20 years now, I’ve been doing some things incorrectly. Please check it out.
